The Fable Fortune Team released a short statement today announcing the news. It thanked “everyone who had joined them for the journey” and the “entire Fable Fortune community.” The statement also let players know that they will be unable to purchase any new card packs, but that any unopened card packs can still be opened.

Fable Fortune has been troubled since launch. After an unsuccessful Kickstarter that failed to reach its ambitious funding goals, developers found funding from other sources. Upon release the game had many issues, and spent over eight months in early access. The game left early access only two years ago, where it was met with mixed reviews.
Fable Fortune was meant to revive the Fable series, but instead it might be last game in the once dominate series. There’s rumors that a new Fable game is coming out for the Xbox Series X , but as of now this is unconfirmed.
The online card game market place is already dominated by giants like Hearthstone, and Magic: The Gathering Arena. For players who want a dedicated fantasy setting there’s Gwent, the card game from The Witcher. The game contains many fan favorite characters from The Witcher, and has has become popular as a standalone game. Perhaps there was no room for Fable Fortune in this crowded marketplace.
On the other hand, Riot Games has recently released its own card game, Legends of Runeterra. This game has already become very popular in its own right. If it can bring in fans of both League of Legends and traditional card games, it might soon see viewership and player numbers rivaling those of Magic: Arena or even Hearthstone. Unfortunately for Fable Fortune, it didn’t have the IP, nor the budget, that Riot Games is able to bring to the table.
Fable Fortune will be available on PC through March 4th.
