Update (4:23 PM ET): Facebook is still down and although they’re not sharing a lot of details, Facebook publicly apologized for the outage and said they are “experiencing network issues.” At this time, the only word on when Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and related services will be back up is “as soon as possible....

For small business owners, the outages at Facebook and Instagram led to hundreds or thousands of dollars in lost revenue. “Today’s outage brought our reliance on Facebook—and its properties like Whatsapp and Instagram—into sharp relief,” said Brooke Erin Duffy, professor of communications at Cornell University. She added that a vast array of workers’ livelihoods depend on the social media sites. One Seattle-based business owner, Sarah Murdoch, who owns the travel company Adventures with Sarah, said she needs Facebook Live videos to promote her tours....

Red Bull, powered with their Renault engines have been there and thereabouts but really haven’t threatened the top four drivers in the standings, raising concerns in the team about performance. Carlos Sainz, however, believes that the Renault engine could be good enough to challenge Mercedes and Ferrari next season. After the F1 season-opener a couple weeks ago, Ferrari is looking to get back on pace, especially considering Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel has won the Bahrain Grand Prix the last two years. Ferrari surprisingly failed to podium in the opener, as Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton secured a one-two finish with Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen finishing third. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, though, set a new track record in qualifying and will start the Bahrain Grand Prix the pole, with Vettel starting second....

The five-time world champion aims to become the first driver to win the British Grand Prix six times, just days after it was confirmed that Silverstone will host the event until at least 2024. Hamilton’s run of four wins in a row came to an end two weeks ago in Austria, when Red Bull’s Max Verstappen became the first non-Mercedes driver to win a race this year. Hamilton finished fifth as Mercedes struggled in high temperatures, but he will still be the man to beat this weekend....

The German Grand Prix in 2019 returns to the iconic Hockenheimring. The 17-turn, 4.574-kilometer course first hosted a Formula 1 race in 1970 and, despite a reconfiguration in 2002 that cut down on the distance, remains a relatively fast course for F1. Sunday’s German Grand Prix is scheduled for 67 laps and a total distance of 306.458 kilometers. Only Monaco (66), Italy (69) and Great Britain (70) have hosted more F1 races than Germany (63, alongside Belgium)....

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton took the pole for the Monaco Grand Prix with the fastest time in qualifying on Saturday. His teammate, Valterri Bottas, will start second in Sunday’s race. The 2018 championship resumes on Friday August 24 when the calendar reaches the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. Lewis Hamilton claimed the last headline by winning the Hungarian Grand Prix ahead of his championship rival Sebastian Vettel. Arsenal 3-1 Sunderland Arsenal didn’t get off to a good start to their Cup defence as the Black Cats took the lead in the 17th minute. A back pass from Kieran Gibbs saw Laurent Koscielny fail to control the ball under pressure and Jeremain Lens pounced to steal the ball and take a shot to beat Petr Cech and give Sam Allardyce’s side the lead.
