Laine Mulye, 35, of Macedon, New York, got into a physical dispute with a school bus monitor on Thursday after her child was told they had to wear a face mask, according to a report from local news station, WROC. During the incident, Mulye allegedly encouraged her child to punch the monitor over their enforcement of the district’s rules. The Macedon Police Department confirmed to WROC that Mulye was taken into custody and transported to Wayne County Jail on Thursday....

Facebook’s Attempt to Avoid Post-Election Chaos A report by The New York Times revealed that Facebook made an “emergency change” to its News Feed algorithm in the aftermath of the US election. According to the report, this meant deprioritizing sources that spread misleading content about election integrity. Facebook decided to adjust its “news ecosystem quality” (NEQ) scores, a system that prioritizes the prevalence of certain news outlets on the platform. Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO, approved the adjustment after more users began engaging with potentially false content from right-wing outlets....
Facebook Ramps Up Restrictions Ahead of Election As the 2020 US presidential election edges closer, Facebook has rolled out another roadblock in an attempt to stop potential chaos on Election Day. Now, Facebook will no longer provide recommendations for groups that pertain to political or social issues. The platform is also halting recommendations for newly-made groups as well. Google now limits the targeting of political ads while Twitter took the bold approach of banning them altogether. But Zuckerberg and Facebook have stood resolute, basically saying it isn’t their responsibility to vet potential misinformation in paid political advertising. This has been met with criticism that says the company refuses to acknowledge the almighty power it has over elections and the general spread of misinformation. The change from a chronological timeline to Facebook’s current algorithmically curated feed frustrated users who preferred to only see posts from their friends or family. Many have continued to look for ways to adjust their feeds into something more relevant to their interests. Or at least something that lets them see what their friends are posting. But now chronological feeds are finally back—sort of. As part of this, Facebook has introduced a new Feeds tab that allows you to choose what you see in the app....
Facebook Prioritizes Ads for Short Videos Yoav Arnstein, Facebook’s director of app monetization, outlined the platform’s new monetization options in a post on the About Facebook blog. Facebook is now allowing content creators to make money from short-form videos. Clips that are just one minute long are now eligible for a “minimally interruptive” ad that will appear at the 30-second mark. This is a pretty significant change from Facebook’s previous policy, which only allowed ads in videos that were at least three minutes long....
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, wrote in a blog post that the company will use the time to work with concerned parties on the social media service tailored for children under the age of 13—who are not currently allowed on the app because of federal privacy law.
