USA Today reports that businesses can now buy ads that route Facebook users to Messenger if they have previously interacted with the brand. They can also reach people who’ve started conversation with them on Facebook Messenger, but Facebook promises that users shouldn’t be worried about spam because messages can be blocked....

It appears that Facebook plans to change its name in the coming days. According to The Verge, an inside source with “direct knowledge of the matter” says that the name change is being done to better align the company with its goal of developing the metaverse. Based on this info, the impending name change could occur during the annual Connect conference, where Mark Zuckerberg is expected to speak, on October 28....

The Attack of the Instagram Clones In a post on the About Facebook blog, Facebook announced a lawsuit against Sahinturk for creating a network of Instagram clone sites and scraping account information. Sahinturk managed to scrape profiles, pictures, and videos from thousands of different Instagram accounts. He then transferred that data to his clone sites, “where anyone could enter an Instagram username to view Instagram user profiles, pictures, videos, stories, hashtags, and locations....

Facebook Pushes Back Against Vaccine Misinformation Now that COVID-19 vaccines will soon be released around the world, Facebook is trying to squash any misinformation that crops up. An About Facebook blog post revealed that Facebook is expanding its COVID-19 misinformation policies. Facebook said that it will “start removing false claims about these vaccines that have been debunked by public health experts on Facebook and Instagram.” Not only will it remove content that promotes false claims about the safety, efficacy, and side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine, but it also won’t tolerate misinformation about its ingredients....

But there has been some fair share of memorable moments over the last couple of years. Azerbaijan has been officially called the European Grand Prix in which the race title used to belong to the Valencia Street Circuit until it’s last race in 2012, which was won by Fernando Alonso (Ferrari at the time). NewsGuard has identified 40 Facebook pages that are “super-spreaders” of election-related misinformation, meaning that they have shared false content about voting or the electoral process to their audiences of at least 100,000 followers. Only three of the 53 posts we identified on these pages—which together reach approximately 22.9 million followers—were flagged by Facebook as false. Four of the pages have managers based outside the U.S.—in Mexico,Vietnam, Australia, and Israel—despite the pages’ focus on American politics....
